Ryndin Vadim Fedorovich
1902 — 1974
Vadim Fedorovich Ryndin (1902–1974) was a Soviet theatrical designer, People's Artist of the USSR (1962), and full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1964). He studied in Voronezh and at Vkhutemas in Moscow. He was a member of the Makovets, OMKH, Four Arts, and AKhRR groups, and taught at the Surikov Moscow Art Institute. He served as chief designer for the Chamber Theatre, the Vakhtangov Theatre, and the Bolshoi Theatre. Ryndin's work is characterized by romantic pathos, emotional intensity, and a gravitation toward heroic-epic staging. Notable works include designs for Optimistic Tragedy, Hamlet, War and Peace, and Don Carlos. He was a recipient of the USSR State Prize (1950).
