Avilov Mikhail Ivanovich
1882 — 1954
Mikhail Ivanovich Avilov was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1953), and full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1947). From 1904 to 1913, he studied at the Academy of Arts under F. A. Roubaud and N. S. Samokish. He was a member of the AKhRR (1923). He worked primarily in the battle genre, notably "The Breakthrough of the Polish Front by the First Cavalry Army in 1920" (1928, Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the USSR, Moscow) and "The Duel of Peresvet and Chelubey" (1943, State Russian Museum, Leningrad; USSR State Prize, 1946). He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and medals.
