Rylov Arkady Alexandrovich

Rylov Arkady Alexandrovich

1870 — 1939
Arkady Alexandrovich Rylov (1870–1939) was a Soviet painter and Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1935). He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under A. I. Kuindzhi and was a member of the World of Art, Union of Russian Artists, and AKhRR associations. In his work, he sought to create a generalized, national-romantic image of his homeland. Rylov's paintings are characterized by a decoratively rich palette and epic vitality (Green Noise, 1904; In the Blue Expanse, 1918). During the Soviet period, he turned to themes of industrial transformation and historical-revolutionary subjects (Tractor in the Forest, 1934; Lenin in Razliv, 1934).
