Bogdanov-Belsky Nikolai Petrovich

Nikolai Petrovich Bogdanov-Belsky (1868–1945) was a Russian genre painter. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under V. D. Polenov, V. E. Makovsky, and I. M. Pryanishnikov, and at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under I. E. Repin. He was a full member of the Academy of Arts (1914) and a member of the Peredvizhniki (1895). His early work focused on rural schools and the lives of peasant children, later shifting toward salon portraiture. He lived in Latvia from 1921. Notable works include At the School Door (1897), Portrait of V. I. Sergievich (1908), and Summer Day (1931).
