Levitan Isaac Ilyich

Isaac Ilyich Levitan (1860–1900) was a prominent painter, landscape artist, and educator, and one of the founders of the "mood landscape" genre. He is the author of famous works such as "March," "Vladimirka," "Golden Autumn," "Above Eternal Peace," and "The Lake." He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under A. K. Savrasov and V. D. Polenov. From 1885 to 1886, he designed sets for Savva Mamontov's Private Russian Opera. He was a recipient of Moscow Society of Art Lovers awards, a member of the Peredvizhniki (Itinerants) from 1891, and led the landscape studio at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture from 1898 to 1900. He was named an Academician of Painting in 1898.
