Kanevsky Aminadav Moiseevich

Aminadav Moiseevich Kanevsky (1898–1976) was a Soviet graphic artist, People's Artist of the USSR, and a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. He graduated from VKhUTEIN in Moscow in 1930, studying under D. S. Moor, V. A. Favorsky, and N. N. Kupreyanov. From 1936, he was a regular contributor to the magazine "Krokodil." Kanevsky was renowned as a master of magazine caricature, satirical posters, and as an illustrator of classic, Soviet, and children's literature. In 1937, he created the famous character Murzilka. His notable works include illustrations for books by K. Chukovsky ("Moydodyr," "Tarakanishche"), S. Marshak ("Cat's House"), N. Nosov ("Vitya Maleev at School and at Home"), and A. Tolstoy ("The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino"), for which he was awarded a large silver medal at the International Book Art Exhibition in Leipzig in 1959.
