Abdullayev Mikail Huseyn oglu

Mikail Huseyn oglu Abdullayev was a painter, corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, and People's Artist of the USSR. In 1949, he graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute (S. V. Gerasimov's studio). From 1941 to 1943, he taught at the Azerbaijan Art School, and from 1965 at the M. A. Aliyev Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. Since 1970, he headed the creative painting studio of the Academy of Arts of the USSR in Baku. He authored paintings depicting the life of Azerbaijani workers, portraits, landscapes, and illustrations for classical Azerbaijani literature. He also worked in monumental art and theatrical set design. He was a laureate of the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR (1974) for the diptych "Rice-growing Girls" and the Jawaharlal Nehru Award (1970). His painting "Joy" was awarded a silver medal at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, and USSR medals.
