Yakovlev Vasily Nikolaevich

1893 — 1953
Vasily Nikolayevich Yakovlev was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1943), and member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1914–1917) under K. A. Korovin and S. V. Malyutin. He taught at VKhUTEMAS, the Architectural Institute, and the Surikov Moscow Art Institute. From 1926 to 1931, he headed the restoration workshop at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. He was the author of thematic paintings and portraits, honored with USSR State Prizes (1943, 1949). His painting style is characterized by weighted forms and a "museum" color palette. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.
