Oreshnikov Viktor Mikhailovich

Viktor Mikhailovich Oreshnikov (1904–1987) was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the USSR (1969), and full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1954). He studied at the Leningrad Vkhutein (1924–1927) and at the Academy of Arts postgraduate program (1933–1936) under I. I. Brodsky. From 1930, he taught at the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, serving as its rector from 1953. He worked in the genres of historical-revolutionary painting, portraiture, landscape, and still life. He was a two-time recipient of the USSR State Prize (1948, 1950) for his paintings 'V. I. Lenin at the Examination at St. Petersburg University' and 'At the Headquarters of the Defense of Petrograd.' He was awarded various orders and medals of the USSR.
