Moravov Alexander Viktorovich

1878 — 1951
Alexander Viktorovich Moravov (1878–1951) was a Soviet painter, Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1946), and a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1949). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1897–1902) under A. E. Arkhipov and N. A. Kasatkin. He taught at several art institutions in Moscow. He was a member of the Peredvizhniki (1904) and the AKhRR (1923). Moravov developed the traditions of the Peredvizhniki genre painting, focusing on peasant life and the new reality of the Soviet village ("In the Volost Registry Office", 1928). He also painted works on historical-revolutionary themes, including "Decembrists in Chita" (1911), the triptych "V. I. Lenin's Arrival in Petrograd" (1931–1933), and "The Lena Massacre of 1912" (1937).
