Kobuladze Sergey Solomonovich

Sergey Solomonovich Kobuladze (born 1909) is a Soviet graphic artist, theatrical designer, and painter, People's Artist of the Georgian SSR (1958), and corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1958). He studied at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts (1925–1930) under E. E. Lanceray, I. A. Charlemagne, and G. Gabashvili. His graphic works are characterized by heroic-romantic imagery and sculptural form. He is known for his illustrations to Shota Rustaveli's 'The Knight in the Panther's Skin' (1935–1937), Shakespeare's tragedies (1934–1935), and 'The Tale of Igor's Campaign' (1939). His theatrical work includes stage designs for the ballet 'Raymonda' (1945), the opera 'The Legend of Tariel' (1946; USSR State Prize, 1947), and the ballet 'Sinatle' (1947; USSR State Prize, 1948). He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.
