Altman Natan Isaevich

Natan Isaevich Altman (1889–1970) was a Soviet painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and theatrical designer, Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1968). He studied at the Odessa Art School and in Paris. He participated in the design of revolutionary celebrations in Petrograd and Moscow. He is known for his realistic portrait of V. I. Lenin, the portrait of A. A. Akhmatova (1914), illustrations for N. V. Gogol's 'Petersburg Tales,' and set designs for the plays 'Mystery-Bouffe' and 'Hamlet.'
