Smirnov Vasily Sergeyevich

Vasily Sergeyevich Smirnov (1858–1890) was a Russian painter and master of historical painting. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under V. G. Perov and at the Imperial Academy of Arts under P. P. Chistyakov. In 1883, he was awarded a large gold medal for his painting 'Prince Mikhail of Chernigov before the Horde of Batu Khan'. From 1889, he was an academician and adjunct professor at the Academy of Arts.
