Sapunov Nikolai Nikolaevich

Nikolai Nikolayevich Sapunov (1880–1912) was a painter, graphic artist, and theater designer. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under I. M. Levitan, V. A. Serov, and K. A. Korovin. He worked extensively in the theater, collaborating with V. E. Meyerhold (the experimental studio on Povarskaya Street, 'House of Interludes'). He was a member of the 'Blue Rose', 'World of Art', and the Union of Russian Artists. A master of decorative panels and theatrical subjects, he made a significant contribution to the development of Russian symbolism.
