Prorokov Boris Ivanovich

Boris Ivanovich Prorokov (1911–1972) was a Soviet graphic artist, People's Artist of the USSR, and corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. In 1929, he studied at Vkhutein in Moscow under D. S. Moor and P. Ya. Pavlinov. From 1931 to 1938, he worked for the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda and the magazines Smena and Krokodil. A participant in the Great Patriotic War, he defended the Hanko Peninsula. In the 1940s–60s, he created significant series of easel drawings dedicated to the struggle for peace and social equality, combining techniques of posters, graphic art, and caricature. He was a laureate of the Lenin Prize (1961) for the cycle "This Must Not Happen Again!". He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals.
