Lebedev Vladimir Vasilyevich

1891 — 1967
Vladimir Vasilyevich Lebedev (1891–1967) was a graphic artist, painter, People's Artist of the RSFSR, and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. He studied under F. A. Roubaud and M. D. Bernstein, as well as at the Higher Art School of the Academy of Arts. In 1920, he headed the "ROSTA Windows" agitprop department in Petrograd, and from 1942 to 1945, he worked for "TASS Windows" and the magazine "Krasnoarmeyets." A master of easel drawing, portraiture, and book design, he developed a unique system for children's book illustration, notably for the works of Samuil Marshak. In 1959, he was awarded a silver medal at the International Exhibition of Book Art in Leipzig.
