Ivanov Mikhail Matveyevich

1748 — 1823
Mikhail Matveyevich Ivanov (1748–1823) was a painter, author of landscapes, battle scenes, and genre paintings, and an educator. From 1762 to 1770, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts under A. Perizinotti. In 1770, he received a small gold medal and a first-degree certificate for his painting "Olive Tree with Cuirasses Hanging on It...". From 1770 to 1779, he was a pensioner of the Academy in France and Italy. He became an Academician in 1785 for his views of Crimea and Tsarskoye Selo, a curator of drawings at the Hermitage in 1792, and an advisor to the Academy of Arts in 1799. Starting in 1800, he taught at the Academy, leading the classes of battle and landscape painting.
