Gun Karl Fyodorovich

1830 — 1877
Karl Fyodorovich Gun (1830–1877) was a painter, lithographer, and educator known for his portraits and historical and genre paintings. From 1852 to 1861, he studied at the Academy of Arts under P. V. Basin. In 1861, he received a large gold medal and the title of Class Artist 1st Degree for his painting "Grand Duchess Sophia Vitovtovna at the Wedding of Vasily the Dark." He was a pensionary of the Academy in France, Italy, and Germany from 1863 to 1871. He became an academician in 1868 and a professor of historical painting in 1870. He taught at the Academy of Arts from 1871 and became a member of the Peredvizhniki (TPKhV) in 1873.
