Svetlichnaya Olga Grigorievna
1915 — 1997
Olga Grigorievna Svetlichnaya - Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
A renowned Moscow artist, wife of the patriarch of Soviet painting Yuri Petrovich Kugach and maternal aunt to another celebrated Soviet artist, Nikita Fedosov.
In 1929, Olga Svetlichnaya enrolled at the 1905 Moscow State Art School. The year 1934 marked her admission to the V.I. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute, where she studied in the Department of Easel Graphics. In 1937, Svetlichnaya transferred to the Department of Painting at the same institute, entering the studio of S.V. Gerasimov and N.H. Maximov.
The artist possessed a profound affinity for the forest. She felt entirely at home within it, familiar with every trail and subtle landmark; she navigated woodland terrain with exceptional skill, even in unfamiliar territory. Olga Grigorievna Svetlichnaya held a particular passion for birch trees, which became the signature subject of her work. She captured them with a level of detail akin to portraiture. In her winter landscapes, they appear enveloped in snow and frost against brilliant blue skies; in spring, they are cloaked in the first flush of greenery; in summer, they stand in triumphant emerald attire; and in autumn, she portrays them draped in vibrant gold.
The artist’s works are included in the holdings of numerous museums and galleries throughout Russia, as well as in private collections both domestically and internationally.
