Shmarinov Dementiy Alexeyevich

Dementiy Alexeyevich Shmarinov (1907–1999) was a graphic artist, People's Artist of the USSR (1967), and full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1953). He studied under N. A. Prakhov and D. N. Kardovsky. He is known as an outstanding book illustrator who masterfully captured the psychological depth and drama of literary works (illustrations for "Crime and Punishment," "War and Peace," and "Peter the Great"). During the Great Patriotic War, he created the series "We Shall Not Forget, We Shall Not Forgive!," which was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1943. He held leadership positions in the Union of Artists of the USSR and the Moscow Union of Artists. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.
