Popkov Viktor Yefimovich

1932 — 1974
Viktor Yefimovich Popkov (1932–1974) was a Soviet painter and one of the leaders of the "Severe Style." He graduated from the Surikov Moscow Art Institute in 1958. His work is characterized by drama, social generalization, and a philosophical approach to life. Key works include "Builders of Bratsk" (1960–1961), "Northern Song" (1968), "The Brigade Rests" (1965), "Father's Greatcoat" (1972), and "A. S. Pushkin" (1974). He was a laureate of the USSR State Prize (1975, posthumously). His works are held in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery.
