1882 — 1934
Mitrofan Borisovich Grekov (until 1911 — Martyshchenko) was a Soviet battle painter. He studied at the Odessa Art School (1898–1903) and the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1903–1911) under F. A. He pioneered the creation of dioramas and panoramas in Soviet art. The Grekov Studio of Military Artists (founded in 1935) is named in his honor. Major works include: "To Budyonny's Detachment" (1923), "Tachanka" (1925), and "Trumpeters of the First Cavalry Army" (1934).
