Gerasimov Alexander Mikhailovich

Alexander Mikhailovich Gerasimov (1881–1963) was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the USSR (1943), full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947), and Doctor of Art History (1951). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1903–1915) under A. E. Arkhipov and K. A. Korovin. During the Soviet era, he became known as a master of portraiture and genre painting, creating works such as "Lenin on the Podium" (1929–1930), "After the Rain" (1935), and "I. V. Stalin and K. E. Voroshilov in the Kremlin" (1938). He chaired the organizing committee of the Union of Soviet Artists (1939–1954) and served as President of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947–1957).
