Deineka Alexander Alexandrovich

Alexander Alexandrovich Deineka (1899–1969) was a Soviet painter, graphic artist, and sculptor. He was named a People's Artist of the USSR (1963), a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947), and a Hero of Socialist Labor (1969). He studied at Vkhutemas in Moscow and co-founded the Society of Easel Painters (OST) in 1925. Deineka is renowned for his monumental works, including mosaics for the Moscow Metro stations Mayakovskaya and Novokuznetskaya, as well as murals for international exhibitions and public buildings. His style is characterized by generalized graphic forms and a dynamic rhythm reflecting themes of labor, sports, and wartime heroism. He taught at several major Moscow art institutions and was a recipient of the Lenin Prize (1964). He is buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery.
