Jacobi Valery Ivanovich

1834 — 1902
Valery Ivanovich Jacobi was a painter known for his historical works. He studied at the Academy of Arts (1856–1861) under A. T. Markov. In 1861, he received a large gold medal for his painting 'Convicts at a Halt.' From 1862 to 1868, he was a pensioner of the Academy of Arts in Europe. He became an academician in 1869 and a professor in 1871. From 1878 to 1889, he taught at the Academy of Arts. He was a founding member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (Peredvizhniki) until 1872.
