Venetsianov Alexey Gavrilovich

1780 — 1847
Alexey Gavrilovich Venetsianov was a painter, engraver, and educator, and one of the founders of Russian genre painting. He is known for his works depicting the life and labor of peasants. He studied painting under the guidance of V. L. Borovikovsky. In 1811, he received the title of 'designated' and later became an academician of the Academy of Arts. In 1812–1813, he worked on a series of political caricatures related to the events of the Patriotic War. In 1820, he founded his own art school in the village of Safonkovo. He is the author of several theoretical notes on art and teaching methods.
