Somov Konstantin Andreevich

Konstantin Andreyevich Somov was a painter, graphic artist, landscape painter, portraitist, illustrator, and educator. He created historical and genre paintings depicting life in Russia and France during the 18th and early 19th centuries and also worked in small-scale sculpture. From 1888 to 1897, he studied at the Academy of Arts under V. P. Vereshchagin, P. P. Chistyakov, and I. E. Repin, and from 1897 to 1899, he studied at the Colarossi Academy in Paris. He was one of the organizers and an active member of the "World of Art" (Mir Iskusstva) movement and a member of the Union of Russian Artists (1903–1910). He became an Academician in 1914 and taught at the Petrograd State Free Art Workshops in 1918.
