Shishkov Matvey Andreyevich
1832 — 1897
Matvey Andreyevich Shishkov (1832–1897) was a painter, theatrical designer, and educator. He created set designs for productions including "The Death of Ivan the Terrible," "Boris Godunov," "The Merchant Kalashnikov," and "Ruslan and Ludmila." He studied at the Stroganov School of Technical Drawing and under decorators H. Chaigneau and A. A. Roller. From 1857, he worked as a decorator for the St. Petersburg Imperial Theaters. He became an Academician in 1869 and a professor in 1884, founding and leading the theatrical design class at the Academy of Arts.
