Petrov-Vodkin Kuzma Sergeyevich

1878 — 1939
Kuzma Sergeyevich Petrov-Vodkin was a Russian and Soviet symbolist painter, graphic artist, art theorist, writer, and educator, and an Honored Artist of the RSFSR. He studied at the Stieglitz Central School of Technical Drawing, Anton Ažbe's studio in Munich, and the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under V. A. Serov. In 1932, he became the first chairman of the board of the Leningrad Union of Artists. He created historical-revolutionary paintings, portraits, landscapes, and still lifes, and also worked as a theater designer.
