Makovsky Vladimir Egorovich

Vladimir Egorovich Makovsky (1846–1920) was a painter and educator, a master of genre scenes and portraits. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under S. K. Zaryanko. In 1869, he received the Grand Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts. From 1872, he was a member of the Peredvizhniki (Itinerants). He became an academician (1873), professor (1892), and full member of the Academy of Arts (1893). He taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1882–1894) and at the Higher Art School of the Academy of Arts (1894–1918), where he also served as rector (1894–1896). He received awards at international exhibitions in Antwerp and Munich.
