Litovchenko Alexander Dmitrievich

Alexander Dmitrievich Litovchenko was a painter known for his works on themes of Russian history. From 1855 to 1863, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts under F. A. Bruni. In 1861, he was awarded a small gold medal for his painting 'Charon Transporting the Souls of the Dead Across the River Styx'. In 1863, he was one of the 14 students who refused to compete for the large gold medal, leaving the Academy with the rank of Class Artist of the 2nd degree. He was a member of the St. Petersburg Artel of Artists. He became an Academician in 1868 for the painting 'The Falconer in the Time of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich' and a member of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (Peredvizhniki) in 1878.
