Kramskoy Ivan Nikolaevich

1837 — 1887
Ivan Nikolaevich Kramskoy (1837–1887) was a painter, engraver, and public figure. He was one of the organizers of the St. Petersburg Artel of Artists and the Society for Traveling Art Exhibitions (Peredvizhniki). From 1857 to 1863, he studied at the Academy of Arts under A. T. Markov. In 1863, he refused to participate in the competition for the Grand Gold Medal and left the Academy. He taught at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts (1863–1868). In 1869, he received the title of Academician. He was awarded a gold medal at the 1878 World's Fair in Paris.
