Kovalevsky Pavel Osipovich

1843 — 1903
Pavel Osipovich Kovalevsky (1843–1903) was a painter, animalist, creator of battle and genre paintings, and educator. From 1863 to 1871, he studied at the Academy of Arts under B. P. Willewalde. In 1871, he received a large gold medal for his painting 'The First Day of the Battle of Leipzig. 1813'. From 1873 to 1876, he was a pensioner of the Academy of Arts in Europe. He was awarded medals at the World Exhibitions in Vienna (1873) and Paris (1878), as well as at the Jubilee Exhibition in Berlin (1886). He became an academician in 1876 and a professor in 1881. From 1897 to 1903, he directed the battle painting studio at the Academy of Arts. He was a full member of the Academy of Arts from 1898.
