Klodt Mikhail Konstantinovich

Mikhail Konstantinovich Klodt (1833–1902) was a landscape painter and educator. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts from 1851 to 1858 under M. N. and S. M. Vorobyov. In 1858, he received a large gold medal and the title of Class Artist of the 1st degree for his painting 'View of the Segewold Estate near Riga'. From 1858 to 1861, he was a pensioner of the Academy in France and Switzerland. He became an academician in 1862 for his landscapes 'Valley of the Aa River in Livonia' and 'Night in Normandy. Fishermen by the Fire', and a professor in 1864 for the painting 'View of the Oryol Governorate'. From 1871 to 1886, he taught at the Academy of Arts, heading the landscape class. He was one of the founding members of the Peredvizhniki (Society for Traveling Art Exhibitions).
