Ge Nikolai Nikolaevich

Nikolai Nikolaevich Ge was a painter, author of historical and biblical works, portraitist, sculptor, and engraver. From 1850 to 1857, he studied at the Academy of Arts under P.V. Basin. In 1857, he received a large gold medal for his painting "Saul and the Witch of Endor". From 1857 to 1863, he was an Academy pensioner in Italy. In 1863, he was awarded the title of professor of historical and portrait painting for his work "The Last Supper". He was one of the organizers and active participants of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (Peredvizhniki).
