Chuikov Semyon Afanasyevich

1902 — 1980
Semyon Afanasyevich Chuikov (1902–1980) was a painter, People's Artist of the USSR, full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, and laureate of the State Prizes of the USSR. He studied at the Moscow Vkhutemas under R. R. Falk (1924–1930). He is known as a master of landscape and portraiture, and as the author of the famous 'Kyrgyz Collective Farm Suite' (1939–1948). His work, enriched by impressions from his travels to India, is characterized by emotional painterliness and mastery of color. He authored the books 'Images of India', 'Artist's Notes', and 'Italian Diary'. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, and other state honors.
