Zaitsev Yevgeny Alexeyevich

Yevgeny Alexeyevich Zaitsev was a Soviet painter and People's Artist of the Byelorussian SSR (1964). He graduated from the Vitebsk Art College (1926–1930) and the Academy of Arts in Leningrad (1930–1937), where he studied under A. A. Osmyorkin. From 1938, he worked in Belarus, and from 1948 to 1950, he served as the chairman of the board of the Union of Artists of the Byelorussian SSR. He was a creator of thematic paintings dedicated to the struggle for Soviet power and the Great Patriotic War, as well as portraits and landscapes. Notable works include 'Funeral of a Hero' (1946), 'Defense of the Brest Fortress in 1941' (1950), 'Konstantin Zaslonov' (1957), 'Requiem' (1970), and the triptych 'My Republic in the Fire of the Patriotic War' (1963–1967). He was awarded three orders and several medals.
