Tyshler Alexander Grigoryevich

1898
Alexander Grigoryevich Tyshler was a Soviet theatrical designer, painter, and graphic artist, honored as an Art Worker of the Uzbek SSR (1943). He studied at the Kiev Art School (1912–1917) and was a member of OST from 1925. Tyshler's work is characterized by metaphor, decorativeness, and whimsical fantasy. In his theatrical designs, he often utilized transformable structures reminiscent of folk theater stages. His easel works are marked by mystical symbolism and an expressionist perception of reality. Notable works include his designs for 'King Lear' (1935) and 'Freilekhs' (1945, USSR State Prize), as well as the series 'Makhnovshchina' and 'Fascism.' He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
