Pakhomov Alexey Fedorovich

Alexey Fedorovich Pakhomov (1900–1973) was a Soviet graphic artist and painter, People's Artist of the USSR (1971), and full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1964). He studied in Leningrad at the Stieglitz School (1915–1917, 1921) under V. V. Lebedev and N. A. Tyrsa, and at Vkhutein (1922–1925). From 1948, he taught at the I. E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (professor since 1949). He is known as an illustrator of children's books and magazines such as 'Chizh', 'Ezh', and 'Kostyor'. His lithograph series 'Leningrad During the Siege' (1942–1944) was awarded the USSR State Prize (1946). He was also awarded the USSR State Prize (1973) for his illustrations to Leo Tolstoy's 'Filipok. Pages from the ABC Book' (1968–1970).
