Konchalovsky Pyotr Petrovich

1876 — 1956
Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky (1876–1956) was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1946), and full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947). He was a co-founder of the "Jack of Diamonds" art group. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris and the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In his early work, he sought to combine the color constructivism of Paul Cézanne with the traditions of Russian folk art. After the October Revolution, he shifted to a more realistic style, becoming one of the leading masters of Soviet painting. He worked in still life, landscape, and portraiture. He was a laureate of the USSR State Prize (1943) and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
