Gorelov Gavriil Nikitich
1880 — 1966
Gavriil Nikitich Gorelov (1880–1966) was a Soviet painter, Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1947), and a full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1953). He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1903–1911) under I. E. Repin and F. A. Roubaud. From 1911, he participated in exhibitions of the Peredvizhniki, and from 1924, he was a member of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AKhRR). He is the author of large-scale historical canvases ('The Execution of Pugachev', 'Bolotnikov's Uprising') and portraits of industrial workers. He was a laureate of the USSR State Prize (1950) for a series of portraits of steelworkers.
