1890 — 1962
Mikhail Mikhailovich Cheremnykh was a Soviet graphic artist, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1952), and a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1958). He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1911–1917) under K. A. Korovin and S. V. Malyutin. He taught at the V. I. Surikov Moscow Art Institute (1949–1962; professor since 1950). His work, rich in satirical allegory and symbolism, gravitates toward grotesque forms. He created posters, caricatures, book illustrations (for works by M. E.
