Zarin Indulis Augustovich

1929 — 1998
Indulis Augustovich Zarin (1929–1998) was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the Latvian SSR, and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. He graduated from the J. Rozentāls Riga Art High School and the Art Academy of the Latvian SSR (1958) under E. F. Kalniņš. From 1962, he taught at the Art Academy of the Latvian SSR, serving as its pro-rector from 1967. A master of historical painting, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, book illustration, watercolor, and pastel, he was awarded the Lenin Prize (1980) for his works "Spring. 1945" (1975) and "Going to War (For Soviet Power)" (1977).
