Zagonek Vyacheslav Frantsevich

Vyacheslav Frantsevich Zagonek was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the USSR (1985), and full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1988). In 1950, he graduated from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Boris Ioganson's studio), where he studied under M. A. Bernstein, A. A. Zaitsev, G. A. Pavlovsky, S. A. Abugov, and G. N. Savinov. He began participating in exhibitions in 1939 and became a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists in 1950. He worked in landscape, historical, and genre painting, as well as portraiture. He was named Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1963), Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1968), and People's Artist of the RSFSR (1979). He was a laureate of the Silver Medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1965) and the Repin State Prize of the RSFSR (1977). Solo exhibitions were held in Leningrad and Moscow. His works are held in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, and private collections in Russia, Japan, Germany, Italy, China, and other countries.
