Vinogradov Sergey Arsenyevich

Sergey Arsenyevich Vinogradov (1869–1938) was a landscape painter, educator, and creator of genre paintings, interiors, portraits, and book illustrations. From 1880 to 1889, he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under V. D. Polenov, V. E. Makovsky, and I. M. Pryanishnikov. In 1889, he received the title of class artist and a large silver medal for his painting "Horse Dealer," subsequently continuing his studies at the Academy of Arts under B. P. Willewalde. He was a member of the Peredvizhniki (1899–1903) and the Union of Russian Artists (1903–1924), and taught at the Stroganov School of Art and Industry starting in 1898. In 1909, he was awarded a small gold medal at the International Exhibition in Munich for his painting "In Summer." He became an academician in 1912 and a full member of the Academy of Arts in 1916. In 1924–1925, he chaired the organizing committee for the traveling exhibition of Russian art in America.
