Vasnetsov Apollinary Mikhailovich

Apollinary Mikhailovich Vasnetsov was a painter, draftsman, master of historical landscape, book illustration, theater artist, and archaeologist. In his works, he created majestic images of the nature of Siberia and the Urals and repeatedly depicted views of ancient Moscow. He received his initial education under the guidance of his brother V. M. Vasnetsov and consulted with I. E. Repin, V. I. Surikov, and V. D. Polenov between 1872 and 1875. He was a member of the TPHV (1888–1903), an academician (since 1900), and a full member of the Academy of Arts (since 1903). He taught at the MUZhVZ (1901–1918) and the Handicraft Industry College (1923–1930). He was a founding member of the '36 Artists' and SRKh groups. From 1918, he chaired the Commission for the Study of Old Moscow. He was awarded a large silver medal at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris for the painting 'Elegy' and a gold medal at the 1914 International Exhibition in Lyon for the painting 'Winter Dream'.
