Varichev Ivan Mikhailovich

1924 — 2016
Ivan Mikhailovich Varichev was a Soviet and Russian painter, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists, and a master of landscape painting. A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, he was awarded several military orders and medals. In 1957, he graduated from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Yuri Neprintsev's studio). His style evolved from traditional plein air painting toward impressionistic enrichment of form. His works are held in the collections of the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, and other museums worldwide.
