Ugryumov Grigory Ivanovich

Grigory Ivanovich Ugryumov was a painter and educator, a master of historical painting and portraiture. He studied at the Academy of Arts (1770–1785) under G. I. Kozlov and P. I. Sokolov. In 1785, he received the Small Gold Medal for his painting 'Hagar Exiled with Her Young Son Ishmael in the Desert.' He taught at the Academy of Arts from 1791 to 1823. In 1797, he became an academician for his painting 'The Trial of Yan Usmars' Strength.' He became a professor in 1800 and the rector of historical painting in 1820. He was an honorary member of the Free Society of Lovers of Literature, Sciences, and Arts.
