Telzhanov Kanafiya Temir-Bulatovich

Kanafiya Temir-Bulatovich Telzhanov (born 1927) is a Kazakh painter, People's Artist of the USSR, and corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. He graduated from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1953. He taught at the Alma-Ata Art School and served as director of the State Museum of Art of the Kazakh SSR from 1973. He was awarded the title of professor in 1981. His work focuses on the history and contemporary life of the Kazakh people. He is a laureate of the Ch. Ch. Valikhanov State Prize of the Kazakh SSR (1967) and the M. B. Grekov Silver Medal (1968). He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Order of the Badge of Honor.
