Roerich Nikolai Konstantinovich

Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich (1874–1947) was a painter, author of historical canvases, landscapes, and theatrical scenery, as well as a writer, archaeologist, and public figure. He studied at the Higher Art School attached to the Academy of Arts under A. I. Kuindzhi and at the studio of F. Cormon in Paris. He directed the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts and chaired the 'World of Art' (Mir Iskusstva) movement. From 1907, he worked as a theatrical designer for Sergei Diaghilev's productions. He became an Academician in 1909. From 1919, he lived abroad, actively participating in international cultural life.
